What Organ Or System In Your Body Processes Drugs? My Friend Seems To Process His Drugs Much Quicker?
Whenever my friend does drugs his body seems to process them very quickly. Granted he has only done marijuana, ecstasy, and adderall, he seem to get over the “high” very quickly. Why does it last for only a short while, and what part of his body is doing this?
Please don’t answer with comments such as don’t take drugs and that it is bad. He is only an occasional user.
most drugs are metabolized by the liver but some are excreted by the kidneys. the THC in
marijuana is stored in fat cells. perhaps, your friend doesn’t have much fat. ecstasy and
adderall are stimulants. up to 30% of amphetamine is excreted unchanged in the urine.
your friend may have a higher tolerance for the drugs. has he been using them longer than you?
he may be on drugs that are considered enzyme inducers which would speed up metabolism
in the liver. perhaps, he was just born with a faster metabolism than you.
Short answer:
The liver. The liver is responsible for modifying most xenobiotics into their active form.
Of course, if your friend is male and you’re not… or if he’s much bigger than you, or much more muscular, all these things can contribute to his processing the same dose faster than you.
That would be the liver! The liver detoxes all those foreign poisons such as ethanol. He probably has more enzymes in the liver that can detox the drugs. Also body mass and the amount of blood you have in your system affects the rate of detox.
